Consider the act of knowing. Why might it be surprising to think that knowing changes the knower?

Consider Christianity. For people who have become Christians, personal transformation, their own and others’, seems to be a telling confirmation of the truth of the claims they have embraced. Given that the thing being known is God (as opposed, say, to an auto mechanic), is it reasonable to expect significant personal transformation? Is it reasonable to expect that a person who comes to know God would experience little transformation?
